I’m sure most of us will know at least one person who behaves like this and tries to prove that they are worse off than everyone else. Is it our programming to compete or is it simply a way of getting attention?

I have known people like this and have even been like this myself on occasions. It seems that the ego needs to be the best even if it means being the best at being the one who is suffering the most or being the biggest martyr.
